Excerpt from An InheritanceBesides, she might not have been first lady, had she gone. The minister's wife - no, a country minister's wife, Miss Barbara assured herself, could hardly take precedence of her, with the minister more or less dependent on her good will. But the doctor's wife - ah! Everyone was dependent on the good will of the doctor, that Viceroy of life and death; and Dr. Donner was a man of power. She remembered seeing him when breaking a horse for her uncle, a vast black brute of a Bellerophon, while she was a girl visiting at Woodsedge. Someone said that now he was content with horses other people had broken, for driving about the country on his prac tice that went far and wide among the hills. She had seen him occasionally since then, at her brother's house when he had come down about her cousin's affairs, or about his own, from time to time.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. • Inheritance

    Tiffany Raynes

Paperback (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, June 9, 2014)
Fourteen-year-old Tonya, a self-centered, high-school freshman from a lower class family, whose fierce devotion to her friends and the mall is threatened by an unforeseen windfall of money that could move the family out of their current city and to another hours away from civilization. An unknown, distant cousin has passed away and Tonya’s mother was his next of kin, and heiress of his more than modest estate. Her parents and three sisters all know the move would be the best thing for the family to get a new start, but a fact that arises regarding a long lost daughter of this unknown relative, leads to Tonya’s hope that she might one day resurface and free Tonya from the wretched wilderness her parents now want to call home. She is stubborn and determined to stay in her hometown near her friends and within her comfort zone. Determined to stop the uprooting of her perceived glamorous life, Tonya tries to plant ideas in her parents’ heads about finding the lost daughter or selling the estate instead of moving in. But then, she discovers a secret in the woods. The acres of forest she has inherited for her backyard harbor a bigger inheritance than Tonya could ever have imagined. She becomes responsible for a huge secret nobody was supposed to discover. And suddenly, moving back to her hometown becomes out of the question as much as it becomes seemingly necessary.

    Harriet Elizabeth Prescott Spofford

Paperback (Ulan Press, Aug. 31, 2012)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
